Evil Dead Burn (In theaters July 10 via Warner Bros. Pictures) — The stomach-churning franchise returns with another blood-soaked installment, as a family reunion turns somber as everyone begins to turn into Deadites. “Infested” director Sébastien Vaniček helms this chapter, and the first images look appropriately wild and, dare we say, marvelous?
Her Private Hell (In theaters July 24 via Neon) — After focusing on television for nearly a decade, Nicolas Winding Refn returns with his first feature film since 2016’s “The Neon Demon.” Sophie Thatcher, Charles Melton, Kristine Froseth and Havana Rose Liu star in the futuristic story of a serial killer, which received a lot of hate and mixed negative reviews upon its Cannes debut. But is there anything more exciting than a divisive film from a bold auteur?Off the beaten path

Thingy (debuting on Screambox July 21) – This mysterious Screambox original is part of a package from Joe Swanberg that acquired the streamer, making for an intriguing blindfold watch.
Pinocchio Without Strings (In theaters July 24 via Viva Pictures) — The fifth film in the Twisted Childhood Universe looks a little more promising than the previous killer “Winnie-the-Pooh” movies directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, but is that enough? Unfortunately, the franchise, which also includes twisted stories about Peter Pan and Bambi, hasn’t pushed the absurd concepts far enough, and the films become cheap slashers. But maybe featuring horror icons like Robert Englund and Richard Brake in “Unstrung” will make things better?
Nightborn (debuting on Shudder July 31) — This parenting nightmare stars Seidi Haarla and “Harry Potter” alum Rupert Grint as new parents who start to think something is wrong. terribly bad with your baby. More details spoil the grisly mystery, directed by “Hatching” director Hanna Bergholm.killer series

human steam (Now streaming on Netflix) — The first season of this high-concept thriller is about the search for a serial killer who can turn into a gaseous form and exploit people. Twisted! From there, there’s a secret society and cops chasing them, plus crazy blood.

“Carry Me to My Grave” by Christopher Golden (available July 21 from St. Martin’s Press) — This fast-paced thriller follows a man who attempts to travel to Maine with his mother’s body to bury it, and the supernatural entities who work to stop him on the next train ride. A true summer novel, this novel from the author of “Road of Bones” and “Ararat” is great fun for fans of things that go bump in the night.
depth press — New to me, this independent publisher specializes in reprinting rare mass-market paperbacks that are full of gory, pulpy goodness. They first came to my attention after the gory cover and package art for the shark story “Riptide” went viral, and I can’t wait to see the next crazy-looking “Chainsaw Terror.”
