\n\t\u201cMozart<\/a> Mozart,\u201d an opulent glam rock-tinged vision of the genius and his maybe more talented sister backed by Europe\u2019s biggest broadcaster, Germany\u2019s ARD<\/a>, has been sold by Beta Film<\/a>\u00a0and Bavaria Media across the world.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn earliest licensing pacts, AMC Networks has closed Latin America, while Canal+ and SBS have secured deals for Austria and Australia. Austria\u2019s ORF co-produces the new series.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn Europe, further early buyers take in public broadcast network RTP, Latvian TV and Tet+ in Latvia and 1TV Armenia.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen Wolfgang Mozart and Maria Anna Mozart<\/a> toured Europe\u2019s royal courts as child prodigies, she got top billing. She married and dedicated her life to raising her widower husband and own children.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMozart Mozart\u201d is \u201cthe story of the Mozart siblings. Not how history tells it but the imagination,\u201d a preface notes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tTurning on the Mozarts\u2019 sibling love wrapped in a tale of rebellion, rivalry and romance, \u201cMozart Mozart\u201d packs two shocks in early Episode 1 with a now adolescent Maria Anna being thrown out of a performance with her younger brother Wolfgang.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tYears later, in Austria\u2019s Salzburg, a now late teen Wolfgang Mozart performs a piece which is one part period piano, another part glam rock with a swelling modern orchestra, a powerful Freddie Mercury-esque choir and Mozart slamming his piano.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the series, when Anna Marie faces an arranged marriage, she and Mozart flee Salzburg for Vienna, aiming to score a position at the court of Emperor Joseph II. Wolfgang has little problem scoring a performance before the Emperor, and his position is almost in the bag thanks to the support of Joseph II\u2019s sister Marie Antoinette who is at court to party. When Wolfgang overdoses on laudanum, however, Anna Marie performed disguised as Wolfgang donning a dramatic red costume and face paint, captivating the court and drawing the envy of Mozart\u2019s greatest rival, Antonio Salieri.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBut her bold stunt quickly gets out of control,\u201d the synopsis runs. \u201cWhen Maria Anna convinces the Emperor to commission the first German-language opera, she must protect her charade, juggle her brother\u2019s unpredictability, and keep her secret from the love of her life \u2013 who happens to be none other than Antonio Salieri,\u201d it adds.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe six-hour drama stars as Maria Anna Havana Joy, who broke out in ZDFNeo vampire series \u201cLove Sucks.\u201d Eren M.\u00a0G\u00fcvercin\u00a0(\u201cSkam Germany \u2013 Druck\u201d) plays Wolfgang Mozart.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMozart Mozart\u201d marks the latest series from Andreas Gutzeit, creator of smash hit \u201cSisi,\u201d which has run to four seasoos. He serves as executive producer, showrunner and head-author. Together with Swantje Oppermann (\u201cDignity\u201d), he wrote the scripts for the series. Clara Zo\u00eb My-Linh von Arnim, director of Canneseries top winner \u201cThe Zweiflers,\u201d serves as director, Simon Dat Vu as director of photography and Jessica De Rooij (\u201cSisi,\u201d \u201cBlood & Gold\u201d) as the composer.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe team didn\u2019t want to copy other famous takes on the composer \u2013 least of all \u2018Amadeus,\u2019\u201d von Arnim has said. \u201cInstead, they decided to show the siblings when they are young.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe convinced our partners we wanted to make this show also for young people \u2013 one that could bring them close to these characters. We wondered: \u2018What would Mozart sound like today, if he was a superstar?\u201d Gutzeit told Variety<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
