Blockchain security firm <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CertiKAlert\/status\/2039401868137271773\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">CertiK said on X<\/a> that hackers may have stolen around $136 million, while crypto analytics firm Arkham put the figure <a href=\"https:\/\/intel.arkm.com\/explorer\/address\/HkGz4KmoZ7Zmk7HN6ndJ31UJ1qZ2qgwQxgVqQwovpZES\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">at around $285 million stolen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If confirmed, this would make the Drift hack the largest crypto theft of the year, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/rekt.news\/leaderboard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">the Rekt leaderboard<\/a>, a site that tracks crypto thefts by size.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not clear who is behind the attack, and a spokesperson for Drift did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Security firms say North Korea was behind the most crypto thefts last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/10\/07\/north-korean-hackers-stole-over-2-billion-in-crypto-so-far-in-2025-researchers-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">netting at least $2 billion in stolen cryptocurrency<\/a>, funds the regime is believed to use to finance its nuclear weapons program and skirt international sanctions that restrict its access to the global financial system.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Decentralized finance company Drift says it has suspended withdrawals and deposits after confirming a security incident.\u00a0 The crypto platform said in a post on X that it was \u201cexperiencing an active attack,\u201d and that it was working to \u201ccontain the incident.\u201d Security researchers and public blockchain data suggest the losses could be significant.
