{"id":3191,"date":"2026-05-03T17:11:19","date_gmt":"2026-05-03T17:11:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/owspakistan.com\/?p=3191"},"modified":"2026-05-03T17:11:19","modified_gmt":"2026-05-03T17:11:19","slug":"the-devil-wears-prada-2-new-vogue-fashion-montage-1236735241","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/owspakistan.com\/?p=3191","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;The Devil Wears Prada 2&#8217; Almost Didn&#8217;t Include a New &#8216;Vogue&#8217; Montage"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tStrike a pose.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs much as \u201cThe Devil Wears Prada\u201d is associated with Vogue magazine (Meryl Streep\u2019s Miranda Priestly is based on longtime editor-in-chief Anna Wintour), the 2006 movie is equally remembered for its deft deployment of Madonna\u2019s anthem, \u201cVogue,\u201d as the soundtrack to Runway newcomer Andy\u2019s (Anne Hathaway) style transformation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn the now-iconic montage, the once hideous-skirt-wearing second assistant dons one chic designer look after another as she treks across Manhattan to the high-fashion magazine\u2019s offices each morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe sequence is so famous that Emily Blunt, who plays the fashion-forward Emily, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reels\/DXhipYQGUI4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">recently mentioned <\/a>that when she and future-husband John Krasinski started dating, he was a total \u201cmegafan\u201d of the film, and played her the montage to point out his favorite of Andy\u2019s half-dozen outfits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWith that type of enthusiasm, you\u2019d think the filmmakers \u2014 including director David Frankel, screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna and producer Wendy Finerman \u2014 would\u2019ve written a mega-fashion montage into \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/the-devil-wears-prada-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-devil-wears-prada-2\" data-tag=\"the-devil-wears-prada-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Devil Wears Prada 2<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBut, they didn\u2019t. At least, not at first.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe specifically didn\u2019t do a montage in the first iterations of the script, to not repeat ourselves,\u201d Frankel tells Variety. But as filming got underway, he began to get cold feet. \u201cWe got very deep into the production \u2014 we were shooting and on our way to Milan \u2014 and I was feeling like there\u2019s such an expectation \u2026 I felt like maybe we should try.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFortunately for fans, Hathaway agreed and pushed for the montage to make a comeback.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThere\u2019s just this expectation of more fashion,\u201d Hathaway reminded the team, Frankel says. So it was up to them to figure out how to pull it off. \u201cWe had to actually go back to the studio and say, \u2018Hey, can we have one more day? Because we have this idea.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe plan was to shoot a super-sized sequence that tracked not only Andy (now the features editor at Runway), but also Miranda, her new assistant Amari (Simone Ashley) and Nigel, the magazine\u2019s long-suffering creative director (Stanley Tucci) as they arrive at various fashion week events in Milan, dripping in the finest couture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBut four times the talent means four times the finery, which was costume designer Molly Rogers\u2019 challenge. \u201cMolly had to panic, and the A.D.s had to find another million extras, and we had to find three new locations in Milan, so it was a big, big deal, but really fun,\u201d Frankel says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tRogers admits it was a \u201cbit of a scramble\u201d to get all the looks together, but it was also a hurry-up-and-wait scenario. \u201cI would like to say [the montage] was mapped out within an inch of its life, but it wasn\u2019t,\u201d she says, explaining that the montage was filmed in pieces, with each arrival shot separately over the course of the on-location shoot. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt would always come up on the call sheet whenever they could fit it in, so we had to constantly ride around with all these options,\u201d Rogers recalls. \u201cWe never knew when it was going to come up on the schedule. It was always time permitting, so it kind of lingered over our heads for a long time. I was trying to be super, super conscious of how they looked art-directed, color-wise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFor Ashley, who was a fan of the original movie, filming the montage alongside Streep, Hathaway and Tucci was surreal. \u201cIt was one of the best memories of my career, being part of this whole movie, let alone filming that montage,\u201d she told Variety at the film\u2019s New York premiere.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOnce the footage was in the can, there was still one question to answer: what song could top \u201cVogue\u201d?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe thought, \u2018We\u2019ll find a new song,\u2019\u201d Frankel says, recounting the postproduction process. \u201cWe put in \u2018Vogue\u2019 as a placeholder, and it just seemed like \u2018We can never take this out again.
