Mitch Marsh was at his destructive best as he pounded out 63 to help Sunrisers Leeds end Manchester Super Giants’ unbeaten start to The Hundred with an eight-wicket win at Headingley.

Australia’s experienced opener smashed six fours and five sixes during a brave 26-ball knock that provided the impetus for the Sunrisers to chase 182 for victory.

Marsh was bowled by a Sonny Baker yorker for a score of 118, but England duo Zak Crawley and Harry Brook continued the momentum of their tone-setting innings.

Sunrisers captain Crawley scored an unbeaten 56 off 34 balls to make just his second half-century of the summer, having missed out on his Test place earlier this year.

Brook contributed 42 not out off 17 balls and also started his tournament with an innings packed with clean hitting.

The England limited-overs captain had only managed scores of three and eight in his first two innings, but mainly dished out sixes against the Super Giants.

Brook’s six boundaries cleared the ropes, including Noor Ahmad’s winning runs with 12 balls to spare.

Earlier, England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler continued his impressive start to this year’s tournament with an unbeaten 63 off 33 balls that provided the foundation for the Super Giants’ 181-3 lead.

Buttler had played a masterful 90 in the Super Giants’ emphatic victory over Birmingham Phoenix last weekend and followed it up with his second half-century.

Heinrich Klaasen had contributed 53 off 27 balls, while Australian seamer Nathan Ellis bagged 2-30 to finish the Sunrisers bowlers’ selection.

The Sunrisers won two of their opening games in The Hundred and join the Super Giants, who remain top on net run rate, Welsh Fire and MI London on eight points.
