Of all the Vionic dress shoes that have a cult following, my favorites are its Uptown Loafers. In the past three years I’ve tested over two dozen pairs of loafers, and in that time I found these to be the most comfortable pair for walking long distances.
They’re not my most stylish loafers by a long shot, but I have to give them their tens for being so supportive compared to most leather dress shoes — and for less than $100 at that. See our guide to best Vionic coupon codes to save when you shop directly from the brand’s site.
Vionic Uptown Loafer
The arch support and super flexible soles on these collapsible loafers make them the most comfortable walking shoes on our list.
The Camel Leather pair I have is on sale for $86 at Amazon (though price variations depend on size). I expect these to be cheaper come Black Friday, but if you’re already planning your holiday travel outfits, now’s a good time to try out these wide foot-friendly shoes.

The deep heel cup stabilizes my weak ankles. When I walk in flat penny loafers, my ankles are liable to tilt inward because I’m a textbook supinator (meaning that when I walk, I put the most pressure on the outermost edge of my heels). With a deep heel cup and firm heel counter, the Uptown Loafers instead straighten out my ankles so I distribute my weight more evenly.
The leather is durable yet flexible. These shoes were very rigid to start and took some breaking in, especially around the heels. But once the leather molded to my foot, it was easy to collapse the shoes in a neat, flat stack and pack them in my tote.
They support high arches. The padding reaches all the way up the inner wall of the shoe. I didn’t feel any aches or stiffness in my arches after walking 20,000 steps on a Saturday in Brooklyn, in part due to the sneaker-like soles.
The bottom line
These shoes earned the American Podiatric Medical Association Seal of Acceptance, so I’m in agreement with licensed podiatrists when they say Vionic’s Uptown Loafers are good for your feet. I wear them if I know I’m going to be walking all day and sporty sneakers don’t fit the dress code.
Their current price point makes them a great buy before the Thanksgiving travel frenzy, but since these flexible loafers have lasted me two years, they’re a prime example of an everyday commuter shoe, too.
