Adam Driver had a major breakout thanks to his role on “Girls,” but the actor shut down the idea of returning for the reboot of the iconic series in a recent interview.
While talking about his role in James Gray’s new movie “Paper Tiger,” Driver was asked by Cinema Blend if he will be returning for the revival. “No, but I wish them the best of luck,” he told the outlet.
News of the new “Girls” series broke in mid-October, with creator and star Lena Dunham set to return as Hannah Horvath alongside co-stars Allison Williams as Marnie Michaels, Jemima Kirke as Jessa Johansson and Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna Shapiro. Andrew Rannells also returns to the role of Elijah Krantz.
The series will have a limited five-episode run on HBO with production starting in 2027.
Driver’s career took off after his run as Hannah’s boyfriend on “Girls.” In addition to his role as Kylo Ren in three “Star Wars” movies, he starred in “Marriage Story” and “The Meyerowitz Stories” for Noah Baumbach; “The Last Duel” and “House of Gucci” for Ridley Scott; “Ferrari” for Michael Mann and this year’s “Misty Green.” He’s also worked with director Jim Jarmusch on “Paterson,” “The Dead Don’t Die” and “Father Mother Sister Brother.”
In her recent memoir “Famesick,” Dunham described her tumultuous relationship with Driver, saying, “He could be short-tempered and verbally aggressive, condescending and physically imposing. He could also be protective, loving even,” Dunham writes. After the last episode of “Girls” wrapped, Dunham says Driver told her, “I hope you know I’ll always love you” before he said goodbye.
