Adventure Time: Side Missions
In 2010, Pendleton Ward subverted typical cartoon tropes with adventure timea surreal coming-of-age sci-fi series that allows its characters to do what few animated creations have managed: grow old. Now, the Land of Ooo calls us once again. Adventure Time: Side Missions, A companion to the original series developed by Nate Cash, storyboard supervisor of the original series, it takes audiences back in time to the vibes of Season 1, with dynamic duo Finn the Human and Jake the Dog reuniting for more wild antics as they fight monsters, meet new friends, and, according to the official synopsis, “kick evil in the butt.” And they will do it all with the same mix of humor and heart that did adventure time a beloved cult classic.
X-Men ’97
Over more than three decades, the X-Men have headlined nearly 20 films and television series. However, one of the franchise’s most beloved entries remains the one that started it all: the iconic ’90s cartoon. X-Men ’97 pick up where X-Men: The Animated Series (which you can stream on Disney+) ended, reuniting many of the original voice actors for a critically acclaimed sequel that finds the mutant superheroes learning to navigate a world without Professor Xavier to guide them. The long-awaited season 2 arrives on July 1 with the first three of nine episodes.
