The Cape Verde football team has been welcomed home by tens of thousands of euphoric fans after a historic World Cup run.

The Blue Sharks flew to the capital Praia on Sunday having been eliminated from the tournament following a thrilling match against reigning champions Argentina.

Jubilant fans transformed the airport grounds into a kind of carnival, drumming, dancing, singing and waving the national flag.
