Justin Baldoni and his wife, Emily, posted a video on Instagram Wednesday afternoon in which they discussed the legal battle with Blake Lively over the events surrounding the production of the 2024 drama film “It Ends with Us.”
“We haven’t spoken publicly for most of the last two years, and it’s not because we haven’t had anything to say, because God knows we have,” Baldoni said. “But it seemed like every time we were going to make a video like this, we wanted to talk, something was telling us not to. It just didn’t seem like the right time, and we were talking about it, feeling about it, and praying about it.”
Then Emily intervened. She said there is “a lot to be said” about her husband’s dispute with Lively, which began in 2024. The first damino fell in December of that year, when Lively alleged that Baldoni sexually harassed her and tried to orchestrate an online smear campaign against her while she was filming “It Ends with Us.” Baldoni was the director and Lively’s co-star in that film.
“It makes it difficult to determine what is right for this specific moment,” he said. “But what does seem important is that we can genuinely say that we are sitting here today feeling immense gratitude for so many things and so many people.”
Baldoni added: “Gratitude has saved us.”
After two years of silence, Baldoni and Emily felt the need to “share something,” considering that “so many painful things have been talked about” since the explosive accusations emerged. Baldoni explained that the plan, until now, was to “let the justice system take its course” and not “increase the noise.” Emily claimed that “the facts have spoken for themselves” in the years-long scandal.
Baldoni thanked everyone who “had discernment” and supported him during this difficult chapter.
“They have given their time to fight for us and thanking them doesn’t seem like enough,” he said. “But we are here, in large part, thanks to many of you and all of our friends and family. One thing we have learned is that when God hits the reset button and everything else disappears, that is when love appears and we feel very loved.”
Following Lively’s allegations, Baldoni and his Wayfarer Studios responded with a $400 million defamation lawsuit against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, accusing her of using false sexual assault allegations as a weapon to seize control of “It Ends with Us.” That lawsuit was dismissed after a judge ruled that Lively’s allegations were protected by litigation privilege.
Just before the trial began in May, Lively dropped her lawsuit and settled with Baldoni and Wayfarer. No cash was exchanged, but Lively is now seeking $7.5 million in attorney fees from Baldoni and Wayfarer.
