The National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) is India’s main entrance examination for admission to medical colleges across the country.

Nearly 2.28 million candidates sat the exam on May 3, having studied for months – in some cases years – for a notoriously difficult exam. However, days later, it was canceled following accusations that the questions had been leaked.

It was a hard blow for the candidates, who had to take the exam again under strict security measures weeks later. Anger over this was one of the reasons why the CJP started its protest.

He and his families have also alleged that around 20 students committed suicide due to distress after the exam was cancelled.

The NEET exam was also hit by a similar scandal in 2024.

The CJP calls for reform of the education system, with greater accountability over alleged exam leaks and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Following Wangchuk’s treatment on Monday, CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke also asked Modi to resign.
