Justin Bieber has joined the star-studded list of part time artists who will close the 2026 World Cup in New York.

The Canadian pop star will perform alongside Madonna, Shakira and K-pop group BTS during the tournament’s first Super Bowl-style halftime show on July 19.

Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel and the PS22 choir featuring Coldplay and the Sesame Street muppets will also appear during the 11-minute set, which supports the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.

“The FIFA World Cup brings the world together like nothing else can,” Bieber said.

In the spring, the Yukon and Peaches singer returned to the stage with a nostalgia-filled set at the Coachella festival in California, his biggest live show in four years after canceling his Justice world tour due to health concerns.

The 32-year-old musician spent much of the April concert sitting in front of a laptop and singing YouTube music videos of his older hits, including Baby, Never Say Never, One Time and Beauty and the Beat.

The FIFA halftime show has been curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin and will raise money for the FIFA Global Citizenship Education Fund, an initiative working to raise $100 million (£73 million) for children around the world.

Colombian pop star Shakira and Nigerian musician Burna Boy, who were among the artists opening the tournament in the three North American host countries, will also return to the stage together.

His global hit Dai Dai has dominated music charts and become a fixture at matches since the tournament launched on June 11.

The largest tournament in history began with 48 teams playing in Mexico, Canada and the United States, but the national teams of the three host countries have since been eliminated.

Eight teams remain as the quarterfinals resume on Thursday, when France takes on Morocco in Boston.

Spain and Belgium meet in Los Angeles on Friday and Norway and England meet in Miami on Saturday. Defending world champion Argentina will also play Switzerland in Kansas City on Saturday.

Argentine Lionel Messi leads the race for the tournament’s Golden Boot with eight goals and has already made history several times over the weeks.

He is followed by the Frenchman Kylian Mbappé and the Norwegian Erling Haaland, both with seven goals, and the Englishman Harry Kane, with six.
