England sealed their first T20 series victory over India as their opponents suffered a record fifth consecutive defeat in complete 20-over matches.
With 159 to win, Phil Salt and captain Harry Brook put together an unbroken second-wicket partnership of 144 as England cruised towards their target in 13.5 overs in the fourth T20 at Bristol.
Brook hit 79 off 35 shots, while Salt made 59 off 42 despite not scoring on their first nine balls.
England now have an insurmountable 3-0 lead in the five-match series, winning the last three matches in excellent fashion after the first match at Chester-le-Street was washed out.
India’s losing streak, coupled with two surprise defeats to Ireland before this series, piles pressure on Shreyas Iyer, who took over India’s T20 captaincy in early June.
Shreyas played a brave innings after electing to bat, scoring an unbeaten 80 off 49 balls at number four, but his teammates offered him little support as India finished 158-7.
Repeating their form from the last two matches, India’s batsmen too easily ducked shots that fell into the hands of waiting English fielders, with 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi the first to fall, lifting Jofra Archer to Sam Curran for 15.
Shivam Dube was the only other batsman to break out of the teens, hitting 22 off 23 balls in a 53-run fourth-wicket partnership with Shreyas, before flicking a Will Jacks delivery to Tom Banton at long-off.
Archer, who finished with figures of 2-20, concluded India’s innings with some good footwork, kicking the ball against the stumps to beat Axar Patel’s run from the non-striker’s end.
The series concludes in Southampton on Saturday (14:30 BST), where back-to-back T20 world champions India will look to avoid going winless for the first time in a five-match 20-over series.
