Sri Lankan seamer Binura Fernando has joined Notts Outlaws for the remainder of their T20 Blast campaign.
The 30-year-old will replace fellow seamer Mohammad Ali, who has been called up for international duty with Pakistan.
Fernando will be eligible to play in the Outlaws’ two remaining North Group matches against Leicestershire Foxes and Yorkshire and in all potential knockout matches.
Notts currently lead the North Group by two points over Yorkshire after a seven-game winning streak and need just one more point to secure a place in the quarter-finals.
Left-arm spinner Fernando, who stands at 6ft 6in, has 29 white-ball caps and 26 wickets for Sri Lanka and has appeared in two World Cups.
“He has a proven track record in white-ball cricket and real international pedigree, his skill set adds genuine variety to the team and will complement the rest of our bowling attack,” Notts head coach Peter Moores told the club website., external
Ali is the second-highest wicket-taker in this season’s competition, with 19 in 10 matches and an economy rate of 7.73.
Moores added: “It will be a shame to lose Mohammad Ali, who has done very well for us so far, but we wish him all the best in Pakistan and are excited to have Binura join in his place.”
