Jemimah Rodrigues scored an unbeaten 42 to guide Southern Brave to a five-wicket win against Sunrisers Leeds and maintain their perfect start in The Hundred.

The Indian batsman, who played a starring role in her country’s first ODI World Cup triumph last year, helped Brave recover from a difficult start in their quest for 117 and scored the winning runs with four balls to spare.

It was the Braves’ second victory in as many games in the women’s competition.

Sunrisers pacer Cassidy McCarthy had removed Lizelle Lee and Maia Bouchier with superb inswingers, while South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt also fell narrowly as Brave fell to 36-3 after 40 balls at Headingley.

But Rodrigues partnered captain Sophie Molineux (21) to steady her innings before finding crucial boundaries in the closing stages to secure the win.

Earlier, Bryony Smith scored 48 off 34 balls for the Sunrisers but Issy Wong claimed 3-15 and Tilly Corteen-Coleman recorded 2-25 to keep her score in check.

The Sunrisers looked well settled at 78-2, but lost eight wickets in the last 38 runs, suffering a dramatic collapse as they were bowled out for 116, a total that proved difficult to defend.
