Vuelta’s sales and finance outfit Global Constellation has boarded international sales on “Nino: A Film About Nino Rota,” a documentary exploring the life and legacy of the Oscar-winning Italian composer, ahead of its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where it will screen in the Official Selection Out of Competition.

Directed by Walter Fasano, the longtime editor of Luca Guadagnino’s films (“Call Me by Your Name,” “Suspiria”), “Nino: A Film About Nino Rota” adopts a “free and associative narrative form to explore the personal, artistic and spiritual ties that shaped his life, revealing an artist who dedicated himself entirely to music and the ideals it embodies,” according to a statement.

Narrated by 17-time Grammy Award winner Sting, the documentary brings together interviews with leading figures from the worlds of cinema and music, including Oscar-winning composer Alexandre Desplat, filmmaker Park Chan-wook, Grammy-winning composer and arranger Vince Mendoza, and many others, offering a “vivid portrait of Rota’s creative universe and the profound influence he continues to exert on filmmakers and composers today.”

Rota composed the music for Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather” and “The Godfather Part II,” for which he won an Academy Award. He is also known for his collaboration with Federico Fellini across much of the filmmaker’s career, including such masterpieces as “La Dolce Vita,” “8½” and “Amarcord,” and he composed the music for Luchino Visconti’s “The Leopard.”

“Nino: A Film About Nino Rota” is produced by Be Water Film (Mattia Guerra), Sugar Play (Filippo Sugar, Elisabetta Biganzoli), Adler Entertainment (Marco Colombo), I Diavoli, Marco Morabito and Fasano in collaboration with Rai Documentari, and with the support of MIC-DGCA Fondo per lo sviluppo degli investimenti nel cinema e nell’audiovisivo, Apulia Film Fund, Apulia Film Commission and Regione Puglia.

Be Water Film and Adler Entertainment will co-release the film in Italy.

Fasano has edited more than 70 films, collaborating with directors such as Park Chan-wook, Dario Argento, the D’Innocenzo brothers and Trudie Styler. His collaborations with Guadagnino include “The Protagonists,” “I Am Love” (which Fasano also co-wrote), “A Bigger Splash,” “Suspiria” and “Bertolucci on Bertolucci,” which they co-directed. He shared the David di Donatello for best adapted screenplay for “Call Me by Your Name,” written with Guadagnino and James Ivory. The film went on to receive four Academy Award nominations and won the Oscar for best adapted screenplay.

In 2021, Fasano wrote and directed “Pino,” a documentary on the artist Pino Pascali, which won best documentary at the Turin Film Festival.
