It’s the morning of the 2026 Emmy nominations and there were plenty of surprises from the start. From unexpected wins to celebrities who campaigned hard and didn’t make the cut, it’s already a heated race long before the September 14 ceremony. Read below for some of the morning’s biggest snubs and surprises. And remember: Some favorites, including the Canadian series “Heated Rivalry” and new ones like “Anne Rice’s The Vampire Lestat” and “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness,” are not eligible.
Surprise: “Widow’s Bay” makes a splash, despite a late start and horror elements.
The show’s launch in late April and its relatively slow run did not affect its ability to garner 19 nominations. Not bad for a show that wears its love of the horror genre on its sleeve.
Snub: Paul Anthony Kelly for his moving lead role in “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette.”
The spirited star didn’t shock voters enough with his double performance as the tragic American royalty.
Surprise: the last season of “Stranger Things” was left out of the Best Drama and Acting categories.
Although it received a lot of love in the lower ranks, audiences weren’t spreading love for the show in general from the adult child actors.
Snub: Outside of Zendaya and Colman Domingo, the all-star cast of “Euphoria” was left behind.
It appears that the long-delayed third and final season of “Euphoria” didn’t have much of an impact on voters, as the once-famous drug-addled soap opera scored nominations for Zendaya and Domingo, but not many of the other big stars, such as previously nominated Sydney Sweeney.
Surprise: “Dancing With the Stars” outsmarts “The Amazing Race.”
For the first time in 10 years, “Stars” campaigned hard and landed a spot on the Reality Competition Show. This came at the expense of perennial contender “Race” in the surprisingly consistent category.
Snub: “Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat” could not match the winks of its first season.
The lively hidden-camera reality show lost some of its luster since its first season, when it received three nominations, this time down to just one for writing.
Snub: Selena Gomez misses out on acting nomination for “Only Murders in the Building.”
Although she once again received a nod for her role as executive producer of the series, she was overlooked for her starring role.
Snub: Taylor Sheridan was once again left in the cold as Paramount+ only gets one nomination.
A special nod to “Tulsa King” is all the streamer received, which is especially surprising considering Michelle Pfeiffer’s lively role on “The Madison” and a standout second season of “Landman.”
Surprise: “Summer House” gets the nod for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program.
Bravo should send Amanda Batula and West Wilson champagne, as the scandalous hookup surely secured voters.
