Former fast bowler Richardson took over as head coach in 2022 after an 18-year playing career and won promotion in his first season, but says last year’s trophy holds a special place.

The loss of left-arm spinner Josh Baker, who died in May 2024 at the age of 20, gave additional meaning to the trophy.

“No matter how long you’re in cricket, you’re going to have a handful of amazing days that you really want to remember and hold on to, and that’s one of them for a lot of reasons,” he said.

“Obviously the club won a trophy, but also in Josh’s memory.

“We played some very good cricket during the campaign and it culminated in that special day for us.”

Worcestershire will face a rematch with Hampshire and also play 2024 winners Glamorgan in a hectic schedule of eight group matches in 18 days.

They will be without Jack Home for a while following his injury last week, while his bowling partner Adam Finch will represent the Manchester Super Giants in the Hundred.

“We’ve been dealt a lot of things in this competition over the last few years, a lot of injuries and a lot of other things,” Richardson said.

“There’s no doubt we’ll be up against a lot again, but this group is incredibly resilient and holds together really well, so the next three weeks should be something we really enjoy.”
