The emergency services of Castilla y León said they had received several calls about the collapse of the fountain. Part of the structure gave way after several people climbed on it to celebrate Spain’s victory, local media reported.

The emergency service said it had notified the city’s local police, as well as Salamanca’s Civil Guard, its firefighters and the local emergency medical service, which sent a mobile intensive care unit and a basic life support ambulance to the scene.

Subsequently, the emergency medical service requested the presence of the Civil Guard at the local health center to investigate the death of the child who was treated there, according to the website of the Junta de Castilla y León.

He also asked the Civil Guard to activate psychological support for the family.

The city council said it “hopes for a speedy recovery for the other people affected by the incident.”
