More than 800 wildfires are burning across Canada and air quality alerts now extend south to several US states.
In the western regions of New York, the air quality on July 16 was considered “very unhealthy,” while in the New York City metropolitan area the air quality is “unhealthy.” Many people across the city, the most populous in the United States, wore masks over their mouths and noses in hopes of protecting themselves.
A thick haze of smoke blocked views of the entire New York City region, including MetLife Stadium, the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty.
