New York firefighters responded to reports of a downed plane around noon local time (16:00 GMT) in front of the marina at East 23rd Street and FDR Drive in Manhattan. The seaplane was upright and was towed back to the dock, firefighters say.

Firefighters removed eight people from the Kodiak 100 seaplane and two suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which will investigate the incident, said the pilot “conducted a forced landing,” causing a wing strut to break.
