Three days after being crowned T20 Blast champions, Northamptonshire made a winning start to their One-Day Cup campaign in a thrilling high-scoring match against Warwickshire at Wantage Road.

Bears captain Sam Hain’s 80 and 20-year-old Theo Wylie’s (65) first half-century set the platform for the visitors, who lost to Raphy Weatherall (4-56).

Luke Procter, one of four members who played in Saturday night’s win over Hampshire, conceded 23 runs in his final two overs to take the visitors past 300.

But two of that Northants quartet, Ricardo Vasconcelos and captain Nathan McSweeney, hit half-centuries as the Steelbacks confidently attacked the required 313.

In the rest of Group A, despite not having 17 players due to Cien’s commitments, Surrey The team’s depth was again evident in their seven-wicket win against Lancashire.
