Northamptonshire: No problem with our T20 form – Darren Lehmann

Northamptonshire head coach Darren Lehmann says there is “no problem” with his team’s form in the T20 Blast after progressing to the quarter-finals.

The Steelbacks lost three of their last four Central and West Group matches, including a five-wicket loss to Warwickshire on Sunday.

But Northants still comfortably topped the group to secure a home tie in the last 16 against Gloucestershire on Wednesday after claiming more wins (9) and more points (36) than any other team in the competition.

“It’s been excellent, we’ve won nine games, lost two of the last three and that can happen,” Lehmann told BBC Radio Northampton.

“It’s about chopping and changing sides to make sure everyone can run in case of an injury. We all came through pretty well.

“Normally we always play against a fairly stable team. In the last games we had an advantage because we played very well. The results were not what we wanted.

“No problem. It’s not going to change how we want to play on Wednesday.”

Northants will look to reach a second consecutive day of T20 finals when they host Gloucestershire, who finished third in their group and eight points behind.

Despite facing last place, Lehmann says the group stage results now count for nothing.

“When Wednesday comes around, the results don’t matter. It doesn’t matter where you finish in the table,” added the former Australian international.

“That’s how you play on Wednesday in front of a big crowd. We just have to win that game and then you work on the next one.

“To be completely honest, it’s pretty much how we’ve planned the entire Blast campaign.”

The Steelbacks have won the T20 Blast title twice, in 2013 and 2016, but have not reached a final since their last success 10 years ago.
