His office also released a memo from the Office of the Attending Physician (OAP), which said doctors visit the senator daily to discuss “all aspects of his rehabilitation care.”

“Since his discharge from hospital, he has maintained an arduous course of physical therapy and rehabilitation, including multiple sessions a day designed to regain strength and reduce the risk of future falls,” the OAP statement reads.

“His fight against childhood polio continues to be a major factor in his mobility. He is not yet medically cleared to leave the rehabilitation center and return to the office.”

Since June 14, there has been limited communication and details from McConnell and his office about his condition, leading to wild speculation about his absence in Washington and on social media.

McConnell, who holds the title of longest-serving Senate party leader in American history, has faced a series of health problems in recent years.

In 2024, he was injured after tripping outside a Senate luncheon, and earlier this year he was admitted to the hospital with the flu.

He has said he will retire at the end of his Senate term.
