Beaumont struck back-to-back fours off Dattani to raise the 50 partnership well before the end of the powerplay and Adams went for 13 in her second over as Sarah Bryce walloped her high over the long-on boundary.

It was Wellington who raised Hampshire spirits by dismissing both Bryce sisters in the same over, with Sarah sweeping to deep square leg before Kathryn was brilliantly taken by Adams at slip, leaping low to her left.

Elwiss provided a calming influence, milking singles and rotating the strike effectively with the former England batter, who passed 50 from 75, albeit riding her luck at times with some aerial shots and risky singles.

The opener was put down by Kemp, diving forward at deep midwicket, while Rhianna Southby missed a stumping chance off Tyson soon afterwards – but Beaumont’s good fortune eventually ran out when Wellington landed one bang on her left foot and in front.

Elwiss, who brought up her 50 with successive fours off Wellington, then took up the baton – but The Blaze still needed 51 when she fell to Tyson, whose spell of 2-46 helped to stifle the batters as boundaries dried up almost entirely.

Hampshire looked favourites, only for Jones to take two fours off the penultimate over from Dattani and, despite the run-out of Higham with three required, her composure was enough to guide the Blaze home.
