Born in Johannesburg, Cooke played briefly for Western Province in South Africa before coming to the UK and featuring in club cricket in Hampshire and the Midlands.

He made his Glamorgan debut in 2011, initially as a T20 specialist and boundary fielder, hitting sixes off his second, third and fourth balls in county cricket.

Cooke broke into the Championship team in 2013 and was part of the side which reached the final of the YB40 competition, as well as the 2025 Championship promotion team.

He has a highest score of 205 not out, against Surrey at the Oval in 2021, and hit Glamorgan’s fastest T20 century off just 38 balls away against Middlesex in 2023.

Other major landmarks include sharing the county’s highest ever partnership of 461 with Sam Northeast away against Leicestershire in 2022, and jointly holding the record for nine dismissals in a first-class match.

in the 2026 season he scored a Championship century to help set up a win over Surrey and blasted 44 off 15 balls in a decisive T20 contribution against Lancashire at Blackpool.

“It’s with a mixture of pride and sadness that I announce my retirement,” Cooke told the club’s website.

“I feel incredibly fortunate to have fulfilled a childhood dream of playing professional cricket and to have called Wales my home for the past 17 years. It has been a privilege to represent the ‘Daff’.

“I am excited about the prospect of a last push in Division One. It’s reassuring to leave knowing how strong the club is currently, and how promising the next generation of players are. Diolch am bopeth (Welsh for thanks for everything).”
