On Monday night’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Jon Stewart slammed President Donald Trump for his reaction to the press following the death of Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham. Graham died on July 11 at age 71.

“The big news of the weekend was the sudden passing of Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina,” Stewart said at the end of the program. “Obviously, I knew him a little bit from lobbying on Capitol Hill, but I didn’t know him particularly well. So I’ll let Lindsey Graham’s best friend pay tribute to the late senator.”

Stewart then cut to a clip of Trump speaking to the “Fox and Friends” hosts, telling them over the phone: “He was a great guy and he was a friend. He called me all the time. He just… I was like, ‘Stop calling me, Lindsey.'”

“‘I’ll never forget the way he always let it go to voicemail. It was our thing,'” Stewart joked. “Obviously he’s just opening the eulogy on a happy note. I’m sure the commotion follows.”

The show then returned to Trump’s reactions. He said in several phone interviews with outlets including NBC, CNN and Fox News: “He loved playing golf. He loved being outdoors. It’s not like he was a great ball striker. He wasn’t… he wasn’t exactly perfect… he wasn’t Jack Nicklaus. He wasn’t Tiger. He was totally against me. He said, ‘I’ll catch you in South Carolina. I’ll catch you in South Carolina.'” That didn’t work very well. It was an unpleasant campaign. It was hard and unpleasant. He wanted the war with Ukraine to end very quickly. I think he was more interested in staying that way, frankly. He was a politician totally addicted to work. You know, some people don’t call that work. “Some people consider that to be talking too much.”

Stewart then said, “Well, I think the president quickly went through the first five stages of grief and went straight to number six: screw that guy.”
