The 2026 FIFA World Cup continues to break records on American English-language television. Tuesday’s match between Spain and France averaged 11.462 million viewers this Tuesday on Fox, making it the most-watched FIFA Men’s World Cup semi-final broadcast in the history of English-language television in the United States.

That record audience saw Spain eliminate France and advance to the final, which will take place this Sunday. The Spain-France record may not last long: Wednesday’s semifinal showdown between England and Argentina, currently underway in Atlanta, may end up surpassing Tuesday’s mark of 11.462 million viewers.

In the Spain-France match, which took place in Dallas, Texas, Spain beat favorite France 2-0, including a goal from Mikel Oyarzabal from the penalty spot and another goal from Pedro Porro. This will be the first time Spain has attended the World Cup final since 2010. Viewership peaked at 4:45 pm ET, when an average of 15.56 billion viewers tuned in.

The previous most-watched FIFA Men’s World Cup semifinal broadcast in U.S. history in English was France-Morocco in 2022, when 6.595 million viewers watched it on Fox. Viewership for the match also increased 76% compared to the 2022 FIFA World Cup Semifinals broadcast average on Fox (6.531 million viewers).

This has been a record World Cup in the United States for both Fox and Telemundo. Fox’s coverage of last week’s match between the United States men’s national soccer team and Belgium on Monday, July 6, averaged 33,086,000 viewers, making it the most-watched soccer broadcast in U.S. history.

And for Telemundo, the July 5 match between Mexico and England ranked as the most-watched broadcast of all time for Spanish-language television in the United States, according to NBCUniversal research.
