Although new Prime Minister Andy Burnham is undergoing an extensive cabinet reshuffle, current Culture Minister Lisa Nandy will remain in office.

Nandy, who has been a Member of Parliament since 2010 representing the Wigan constituency, was appointed Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport by former First Minister Keir Starmer in July 2024, shortly after Labor won the general election, making her the 12th minister in the role in almost as many years.

Her two-year term has also made her one of the longest in office. She previously served as shadow cabinet minister for international development and shadow housing minister.

Nandy took up the role during a period of uncertainty for the UK film sector following strikes by Hollywood writers and actors, post-pandemic inflation, along with a slowdown in the advertising market and shrinking budgets for broadcasters and broadcasters. She is currently overseeing the renewal of the BBC’s royal charter, including its funding mechanism, as well as the UK arm of the Paramount/Warner Bros. Discovery merger, which she said she was “willing to intervene in.”

Other major deals in the UK include Comcast-owned Sky’s recent acquisition of public service broadcaster ITV, which has yet to receive regulatory approval, as well as potential bidders for its soon-to-be-spinned production arm ITV Studios.

Meanwhile, Burnham also appointed Kanishka Narayan as AI’s first minister, jointly in the Cabinet Office and the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade.

Narayan was previously Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the department of science, innovation and technology. He was elected in July 2024 as MP for the Vale of Glamorgan.
