Perez Hilton is in “serious but stable condition” and will require surgery after he appeared to commit self-harm in a livestream earlier this week, according to a new statement written by his family.
“He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days,” Hilton’s family wrote on his website PerezHilton.com on Sunday. “His treatment and recovery will be a long process. We are grateful that Perez was able to spend time with his mother and sister yesterday.”
The celebrity blogger was hospitalised on August 4 after sharing a TikTok livestream in which he appeared to harm himself. Concerned viewers notified the authorities, which prompted a police response. Hilton was then hospitalised under Florida’s Baker Act – a law allowing authorities to involuntarily hold someone for a period of time if they pose a threat of harm to themselves or others.
The family’s statement demanded privacy, urging members of both the media and public to stop visiting Hilton’s property.
“There is absolutely no reason for members of the media or the public to remain outside the family’s home,” the statement read. “We again respectfully ask members of the media to leave the home and surrounding area, stop following family members, and cease photographing Perez’s children. We also ask photo agencies not to purchase, publish, or distribute any photographs of the children that may have been taken.”
According to the statement, Hilton’s three children (whom he had via surrogacy) remain safe and are being cared for by immediate family.
“Please allow them, and the rest of the family, the peace and privacy they desperately need during this incredibly difficult time. Thank you for your continued support, compassion and understanding.”
In an earlier update, Hilton’s family said the blogger was able “to communicate”, which gave them hope.
Since then, however, they said there had been several “false and inaccurate” reports regarding the blogger’s condition.
“We want to confirm that Perez remains hospitalised under Florida’s Baker Act. His communication has been extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers and others directly involved in his care.”
There has been no communication between Hilton and the media, the statement continued, and he has not issued any public statements. “The only statements regarding Perez that should be considered credible and authorised are those published directly on PerezHilton.com.”
On August 6, the family revealed in a separate statement that Hilton’s children and other family members had been inside the home on August 4, just minutes before the livestream began. They reportedly fled the property once it became clear he was experiencing a severe mental health crisis.
Authorities from the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office attended the 48-year-old blogger’s home after receiving several calls from concerned members of the public who had seen a distressing livestream of Hilton appearing to harm himself. Hilton’s TikTok account has since been suspended.
