Northamptonshire have confirmed that all-rounder Rob Keogh will retire from professional cricket at the end of the season because of a back injury.

The 34-year-old came through the club’s academy, making his first-team debut in August 2010, and has made 315 appearances across all formats.

During his 16 seasons, he helped them win the T20 Blast in 2016, and secure promotions to Division One of the County Championship in 2013 and 2019.

A club statement said:, external “Having sought advice and support from medical specialists for a lower back issue, Rob has made the decision to retire.”

Keogh says “It’s never easy to make those decisions but ultimately in a way it got taken out of my hands.

“I came here as a 12-year-old [on the Emerging Players Programme], walked through the gates and fell in the love with the place.

“I was a boy from a state school in Dunstable, getting the chance to live his dream.

“I was a fan the moment I walked through the gate, and I’ll be a fan the moment I walk out. It’ll always be a very special place for me.”

In 2016, Keogh’s hit the winning runs to secure the Steelbacks’ second T20 Blast title.

He was awarded his County cap in 2019, and received a testimonial year in 2024 which recognised his contribution and achievements for over a decade.

He passed 10,000 all-format runs for Northamptonshire in 2025, and his current tally of 10,140 has been exceeded by only 30 players in the club’s history.

His 21 centuries for Northamptonshire across all formats puts him level with Raman Subba Row in the all-time list.

Ray Payne, Northamptonshire CEO said: “Rob Keogh epitomises the definition of a one-club cricketer. Sadly, that’s something we don’t see nearly as often in the modern game.”
