Gomez and Swift’s friendship began in the late aughts when Gomez briefly dated Nick Jonah and Swift was dating José Jonahwith whom the Grammy winner separated in 2008.

“Everything was nice, we were young,” Gómez shared during an appearance on Therapist in August. “She and I like to say that the best thing we got out of those relationships was each other because it was really sweet.”

“At that age we became best friends, united by the breakup, as happens with girls,” she recalled. “And then we stood still through all the ups and downs that came after, and here we are, 16 years later.”

And the feeling of instant friendship was certainly there for Swift.
