Every summer, it seems like a new sunglasses silhouette hits the zeitgeist in a way that makes you think all the trend-setting celebrities have secretly conspired to add the same sun-protective accessory to their rotation once temperatures hit 70 degrees (or 90, or 100…).

As we know, everything old becomes new again. And this year, oversized sunglasses from the ’70s and ’80s have become the season’s most popular styles. Just a few examples: Jennifer Lawrence in doe-eyed Diors during her frequent walks in New York; Rihanna partying at the Dot Dot Lounge in Hollywood, hidden behind Balenciaga mask sunglasses; and Rosalía, whose face obstructing Balenciagas at the Los40 Music Awards, was the standout accessory in her custom ensemble.

The trend has also continued its streak on the runways this year. Valentino, Fendi, Tory Burch, Yves Saint Laurent, Celine and Balenciaga (once again) co-signed the buggy trend with dramatic, almost humorously large silhouettes.
