The short answer: maybe.
City officials confirmed to the BBC that someone requested a permit to close a street near the stadium over the Fourth of July Independence Day weekend.
The BBC’s U.S. media partner CBS News said Tuesday that the couple is planning a rehearsal dinner for about 100 people at the stadium’s Infosys Theater.
And high-profile friends of the couple, including actress Lena Dunham and frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff, were seen Thursday night in formal attire.
On Thursday night, Swift and Kelce donated $26 million (£19.4 million) to charities in the US close to their hearts, including organizations in New York, Nashville, where Swift began her music career, and Kansas City, the home of Kelce’s NFL team.
Swift’s representatives, while not mentioning anything about a wedding, told BBC News that the donation was for “charities across the United States.” Food banks are among the recipients of the donations.
A second, larger celebration is reportedly scheduled for Friday night through Saturday morning, seating about 1,000 people.
The event will reportedly feature musical talent and a massive stage is being built inside the stadium for the event, CBS reported Wednesday.
Dora Pekec, a spokesperson for the New York City mayor’s office, told the BBC that a permit was submitted in early June to close roads around the stadium from July 2 to 4.
Access to Penn Station, the country’s busiest rail hub, located below MSG, will also be restricted, according to the Associated Press (AP) news agency.
The New York Times (NYT) first reported the news and that several players from Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs football team had booked hotel rooms nearby. The newspaper has not explicitly said that the event at the arena is a wedding.
TMZ and other outlets have been speculating that MSG, a 22,000-seat stadium that is typically used for large concerts and is home to the New York Knicks basketball team, would host the wedding celebrations.
Swift herself has performed there eight times during her two-decade career, at awards shows and during her Fearless and Speak Now tours.
