Charles grew up with the ground at the end of his garden, making his debut in 2010 before taking over the captaincy in 2017 and said walking across the ground as captain gave him goosebumps.
“Seeing dad on the sideline, my whole family there, it was definitely a special moment,” he said.
Jimmy added: “I’m proud of the facility, but the fact that Chuggy (Charles’ nickname) has done so well in Jersey makes the whole family very proud of him.
“His brother loves cricket and all hours of the day when they were kids they played cricket together.
“I also played with them until they started hitting me and they didn’t want to play with me anymore.”
Jersey is currently ranked 29th in the ICC global T20 rankings.
The team only missed out on reaching the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka 2026 in terms of net performance last summer, after beating Scotland and narrowly losing to the Netherlands in qualifying.
The team is on track again – they qualified from their European Sub-Regional Qualifier for the T20 World Cup in Cyprus last month and will return to the final round again next year as they aim to reach the 2028 T20 World Cup.
“Much of today’s national equipment has arrived via the Farmers pipeline,” Charles said.
“I think he’s been a big help in helping to cultivate the talent that Jersey has today, so I think a lot of thanks are due to my dad and the Farmers Cricket Club for their support in helping those young players get ahead.”
