A Gloucestershire club is waiting to see if it has achieved the highest total in T20 cricket after amassing an incredible 417-2.

Dumbleton CC, who play in the Premier One division of the West of England League, posted a mammoth total against Hatherley and Reddings CC on Tuesday.

Opener Ewan Gegg made 206 off 55 balls, with 13 fours and 23 sixes, while Dan Holland made 122 off 37 deliveries.

Dumbleton’s batsmen cleared the ropes 47 times in total.

As expected, Hatherley and Reddings CC fell short by 188 runs and were bowled out for 229.

Harry Bloomfield, who conceded 35 off his over in Dumbleton’s innings, became the third centurion of the match, striking out 109 off 48 balls.

“We all said it’s one of the strangest and [most] We’ve seen some fantastic cricket,” Gegg told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

“We haven’t seen it break in a long time. It was a very strange game.”

Dumbleton is seeking clarity on whether the score counts as an official record for a T20 game, pointing to another high-scoring T20 game in India in 2017, where Maavi finished with 416-2.

Last September, England amassed 304-2 (a record total in a T20 International between two Test nations) in their victory against South Africa, while the highest total recorded in a professional game was 349-5 set by the Indian team Baroda in 2024.

“We had a very good start with me and Tom Kelly. [64 off 25 balls] and we keep the momentum going,” Gegg, 23, added.

“We had a pretty good batting order, so we thought we’d just keep flying, keep going, and it got to a point where I didn’t think I was going to be in the 200s.

“We got to 15th, 16th place and I thought there was a slight chance if things went really well and luckily they did.”

As for why the game ended up being such a high-scoring affair, Gegg believed a few factors were at play.

“We wanted to win to try to get the quarterfinals at home for the next round and I don’t know if that had anything to do with it, but it was very random,” he said.

“Our ground is known for being a good ground and sometimes it is small on the one hand.

“The pink ball seemed to go a little further and not do as much and I think everyone got into a little bit of a mood and just kept going and going.”
