Middlesex has announced the appointment of Julie Harrington as interim county chief executive.

Harrington, former chief executive of British Cycling and the British Horseracing Authority, said she was looking forward to “bringing her experience” to the club.

His appointment comes after chief executive Andrew Cornish was placed on leave., external amid an investigation carried out by the Cricket Regulator.

In March, former England captain Mike Gatting and a group of high-profile former Middlesex players wrote to members after calling on club chairman Richard Sykes to resign over what they said was the club’s poor functioning.

In a statement, Sykes said Harrington’s “extensive leadership experience across major sports” would be invaluable to the club.

“Together, we remain focused on providing stability for our people, supporting our players, members and staff, and ensuring Middlesex continues to move forward with confidence and purpose,” he added.

Harrington will take office on Monday, July 20.
