Daniel Siad, 69, was discovered on Monday in Colombes, a suburb northwest of Paris, the Nanterre prosecutor’s office confirmed to the BBC.
“An investigation was opened Monday afternoon to determine the cause of death following the discovery,” the office said, adding that an autopsy will be conducted.
Siad’s name appeared thousands of times in Epstein files released by the US government. He had previously denied any knowledge of the threat Epstein posed.
Epstein victim Anya (not her real name) previously told the BBC that Siad had introduced her to Epstein.
Before a BBC investigation published on July 18, Siad’s lawyer had said he was unavailable for comment, but had previously denied knowing Epstein posed a threat.
