After a long hangover, “Drunk History” is back.

The Emmy-winning comedy show is returning with three new short-form episodes, seven years after it last aired on Comedy Central.

From Derek Waters and Jeremy Konner, “Drunk History” pairs inebriated storytellers with scrappy historical reenactments. (The facts and dates are true, but the dialogue definitely isn’t.) The first new episode, launching on Sept. 15 on Comedy Central’s YouTube channel, stars Meghan Trainor as Madonna, focusing on the pop icon’s legendary performance at the inaugural VMAs.

The cast also includes Steve Agee, Tim Baltz, Seth Green, Colin Hanks, Jack McBrayer, Chris Parnell, Johnny Pemberton, Daryl Sabara, Mae Whitman, Weird “Al” Yankovic and more, with narrators including Lisa Gilroy, Patton Oswalt and Marisha Ray.

The other storylines center on Frances Perkins (the unsung architect of FDR’s New Deal) and two men’s lifelong battle to make the world’s largest ball of twine.

“Drunk History” started in 2007 as a Funny or Die web series before Comedy Central picked it up as a TV show that ran for six seasons from 2013 to 2019. That year, the network renewed “Drunk History” for a seventh season but reversed the decision in 2020, when production was halted due to the pandemic.

Guest stars over the years include Jack Black, Will Ferrell, Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Bob Odenkirk and more.
