Flexing its muscles as one of the biggest new kids on its film industry block, Spain’s ISII Group has entered production on “Amor de Dios,” headed by “El Orfanato” star Belén Rueda and produced by ISII’s flagship label, Inefable Productions.

The news comes as ISII Group’s distribution and sales house, Deep Com Roots, sold “Summer Days” to half of the world’s major markets and cameras rolled on “La Cathédrale,” Inefable’s first all-English production starring “One Piece” icon Taz Skylar.

As a sign of its advancement in scale, ISII Group now has four films in production in 2026 and another quartet released or awaiting release, including the Spanish western “Trinidad,” an ambitious Spanish family saga set in the Wild West directed by Gabriela Andrada, Paz Vega and Karla Sofía Gascón of “Your Fault.” All ISII Group titles are sold and distributed in Spain by Deep Com Roots, strategic partner.

‘Summer Days’ closes half the world

“Summer Days” weighs in as a sun-kissed erotic drama with a hint of suspense.

Directed by Maggie Civantos, star of “Locked Up”, the first international revelation of the creator of “Money Heist”, Alex Pina, “Summer Days” closed Latin America, bought by the Brazilian Sofa Digital, in addition to Germany, Austria and Switzerland (Busch Media Group) and the CIS (Kinologistika). Tokyo’s Aya Pro has acquired the Japanese license, Mumbai’s PictureWorks India, distributor of Anatomy of a Fall and Flow, has acquired the Indian rights, and Scene & Sound has acquired the South Korean rights.

“Summer Days” begins with college students Juan (Pau Simón, “Nudes”) and Gabriela (Berta Galo, “La Moderna”) escaping to their family chalet by the beach to spend an idyllic summer.

The film is described as a romantic drama. It acquires almost immediately, however, an erotic charge, in the dialogue and the arrival of Juan’s father, Fernando (Roberto Álamo, “Antidisturbios”) with his much younger girlfriend, Mónica (Civantos). Juan and Mónica’s feelings for each other grow, mixing Juan’s resentment because his father left his mother and a physical attraction that is impossible to ignore.

“Deep Com Roots attended the Cannes market for the first time and generated great interest in the international market. Among our programming, Summer Days was one of the films that attracted the most attention from buyers,” said Emir Duzel, head of international sales at Deep Com Roots. Variety. “We believe its powerful story and strong sense of tension made the film especially appealing. We are currently continuing negotiations for distribution deals for several more territories.”

An early fruit of the ISII Group’s support of new talent, “Summer Days” is based on a script by David Sueiro, who was one of the seven fiction winners in the ISII Group’s first Break on Time ’59 national script competition in 2024. It also marks the return to fiction of the multi-talented director Chema del Prado, behind “IsiDisi”, a Spanish classic of disgusting cinema.

Also the female lead of Alejandro Amenábar’s Academy Award-winning “The Sea Inside,” and star of the deluxe genre hits “Julia’s Eyes” and “The Body,” in “Amor de Dios,” Rueda plays Sara Lanes, a renowned dancer and choreographer now living in Paris. When the Amor de Dios flamenco school, once considered the best in the world, announces its closure, Sara returns to Madrid with her disciple Angela in hopes of saving the place where she began her own career.

“At School, Sara rediscovers a past that she has never been able to leave behind. That and her own physical decline turn her return into a deeply personal journey where she has to decide what she is willing to sacrifice to preserve her legacy,” the synopsis says.

The key cast also includes Asier Etxeandia, co-star of Pedro Almodóvar’s “Pain and Glory,” and celebrated French dancer Soleila Chaou, Spanish National Ballet principal dancer Irene Tena and Tania Santana (“Love on a Tightrope”).

Scheduled for release in 2027, “Amor de Dios” marks the long-awaited fiction feature debut of Paula Palacios, winner of the IDA Netflix 2022 Global Emerging Filmmaker Award and double Goya nominee for best documentary for two poignant and moving films, set in the context of African immigration to Europe: “Drowning Letters” (“Cartas Mojadas”, 2020) and “My Brother Ali” (2024).

“A new impetus for the ISII Group’s fiction division,” he noted, “La Cathédrale,” a double redemption thriller, revolves around Thomas (Keen), a renowned violinist, who struggles to rebuild his life after the murder of his teenage daughter. When he agrees to participate in a restorative justice process with the man convicted of his murder (Skylar), the discovery of a mysterious violin among his belongings leads him on what the synopsis calls “a relentless search for the truth.”

Beyond Slylar, “La Cathédrale” stars Keen; and the Catalan actor and pianist Peter Vives (“The Time Between”).

The film stands out for its “narrative tension, a powerful soundtrack and an immersive atmosphere,” said Deep Com Roots.

Now filming in the Canary Islands, in Tenerife and Las Palmas, “La Cathédrale” reflects director Eduardo Cubillo’s fascination with restorative justice. “Two people who seem irreconcilable – full of hatred and countless grievances – can, through a simple conversation – which may or may not be difficult – end up feeling liberated in a way that has to be seen to be believed; it is truly magical,” he said. The film is written by Cubillo and screenwriter and director José Ortuño (“The Extraordinary Tale”).

“Trinidad”, directed by Laura Alvea and José Ortuño, premieres in November 2026.

With excellent reviews, beginning in 1969, when Spain was still under the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, “Perhaps” narrates the perhaps reciprocated love of the Canarian poet Natalia Sosa Ayala (“Hierro”) for the trapeze artist Pinito del Oro (Adriana Ugarte, “Juileta”), star of the Ringling brothers of New York. Inclined on July 10, it is directed by Arima León, later addressing their meeting and their correspondence.

Winner of the Break on Time 2025 contest, “ Desde Arriba ,” a comedy-drama about the relationship between father and son, is now in post-production. Martín Cuervo directs from a script by Arturo Ruiz Serrano and José Manuel Carrasco.

A realistic survival thriller starring Milena Smit (“Madres Paralelas”) and Irene Escolar (“Tell me who I am”). “Mi Zona” filmed in the Canary Islands of Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura starting in May. It is the debut feature of the winner of the Goya for best fiction short film Cristián Beteta (“Ángulo muerte”). Directed by Violets Salama (“Alegría”), “Auri,” starring Cristina Marcos (“Maravillas,” “Locked Up”), a comedy that revolves around the revolution in the later life of a housewife, premiered in April in Spain.
