Jordan Firstman, fresh off Cannes buzz for his feature directorial debut “Club Kid,” leads the English-language voice cast of “Jim Queen,” alongside comedian, actor and singer Matteo Lane (“Chicago”). The pair voice Jim and Lucien in the Cannes breakout gay animated comedy from filmmakers Marco Nguyen and Nicolas Athané. Global Constellation will introduce this English-language version, featuring the U.S. voice cast, to North American buyers at Toronto Film Festival.

Emmy-nominated comedian, actress and television host Nicole Byer (“Nailed It!”), actor, playwright, screenwriter, singer, songwriter, producer and director John Cameron Mitchell (“Hedwig and the Angry Inch”), drag queen, comedian, actor, activist, musician, author, podcaster and reality television personality Bob the Drag Queen (“We’re Here,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race”), and Emmy and Golden Globes nominee Wendie Malick (“Shrinking”) round up the voice cast.

The announcement comes as “Jim Queen” continues to build on its Cannes momentum in the marketplace. Following its buzzy Cannes world premiere, which festival director Thierry Frémaux hailed as “one of the most beautiful in the festival’s history since ‘Priscilla Queen of the Desert,’” the film was released in French theaters by The Jokers Films on June 17, debuting at No. 3 at the box office behind only “Toy Story 5” and “Backrooms.” To date, “Jim Queen” has surpassed 370,000 admissions and $3 million at the French box office, and is rolling out theatrically across more than 25 international territories in the months ahead. U.S. distribution rights remain available and are currently in negotiation.

In his review, Variety’s Guy Lodge called it a “hilarious rare shot of broad comedy that plays like a queer ‘South Park’ on literal steroids.”

Produced by Bobbypills founder David Alric and Arthur Delabays, “Jim Queen” is a “wild comedic ride through identity, fame and gay culture in crisis.” When Heterosis, a mysterious virus that turns gay men straight, sweeps through the Parisian gay scene, Jim, the six-packed sovereign of the Gym Queens, goes from Pride royalty to social outcast. With only Lucien, a freshly out twink with more heart than abs, still by his side, Jim must race to find a cure before the disease erases the community that once worshipped him.

“Jim Queen” premiered to raucous buzz as part of this year’s Cannes official selection, the same edition at which Firstman’s own directorial debut, “Club Kid,” in which he also stars, sparked a bidding war before being acquired by A24 in an eight-figure deal. He is currently in production on Season 2 of the hit HBO series “I Love LA” and has also starred in FX’s “English Teacher” and Mubi’s hit feature film “Rotting in the Sun.” He is represented by UTA, The Lede Company and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.

Lane, who is on his third international stand-up tour, “We Gotta Catch Up!,” has sold more than 250,000 tickets across three worldwide tours. Last year, he sold out the Radio City Music Hall during his nationwide “Can’t Stop Talking” tour. He has also sold out Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and the Chicago Theatre. Most recently, Lane made his Broadway debut as Billy Flynn in “Chicago” at New York’s Ambassador Theatre. Beyond the stage, Lane’s specials include “The Al Dente Special,” streaming on Hulu and Disney+, “Hair Plugs & Heartache” and “The Advance Special.” He has appeared in “Abbott Elementary” and “Survival of the Thickest,” and co-hosts the podcast “I Never Liked You.”

Little Walnut, an investor in the original production, is producing the English-language version of “Jim Queen,” with Moby and Lindsay Hicks, producing alongside Bobbypills with support from creative executive Erin Stehler.

Co-written with Simon Balteaux and Brice Chevillard, “Jim Queen” is produced by Bobbypills, one of Europe’s leading adult animation studios. Bobbypills recently produced James Gunn’s “Creature Commandos,” the first television series and first official chapter of the DC Universe, for DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation. Its credits also include “Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix,” produced with Ubisoft Film & Television for Netflix, as well as the adult animated series “Crisis Jung” and “Vermin,” both streaming on Netflix.

Directors Marco Nguyen and Nicolas Athané, both Gobelins alumni, bring extensive experience across animated features, series and games, with key credits on acclaimed films including “The Summit of the Gods,” “Ernest & Celestine,” “The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales,” “The Swallows of Kabul,” “The Rabbi’s Cat” and “The Red Turtle.”
