Putting on a bathing suit in full swing in a heat wave isn’t my idea of ​​summer fun, but I get over it when I remember how fleeting beach season is. So if I’m not in the mood for a bikini, I wear my quinceanera swimsuit. It looks normal, but it has the perfect level of compression to support me without drastically sculpting me.

It’s a bit garish to name items “Italian” in a veiled attempt to denote luxury, but the Quince swimsuits we tried actually looked more expensive than they are. The bonded fabric is stretchy without feeling loose, and the metal details on my Quince Triangle Bikini haven’t scratched or peeled in over two years.

The Italian one-piece camisole

I’m 5’9″ and my torso is above the average length for women’s one-piece swimsuits. Many of the ones I’ve tried give me a wedgie or the straps dig into my shoulders.

Luckily, Quince has a long torso fit (in addition to a regular fit) that’s designed especially for proportions like mine. Wearing the Italian one-piece camisole, I lay fully stretched out on a reclined beach chair, happy as a seal sunbathing on a rock.

The straps are adjustable, giving you more control over chest coverage. This is useful if you are, for example, at a family pool party and want more chest coverage. The low leg cut and wider seat also seemed modest enough for this type of environment.

Inside, the bra has removable foam cups (I usually remove them because they tend to get heavy or lumpy when wet). I left them on when I tried this suit on because without them, the fabric is thin enough for something to peek through.

Polyester fabric feels stretchy, soft and tight. I’m a size 4 and the small fits me well and has little room to spare. It takes a minute to squeeze it due to the gentle compression effect, but once it’s on, it’s on. Everything stayed in place, even while bodysurfing between crashing waves.

The Italian triangular bikini

When I first tried this bikini two years ago, I had no idea how much use I would get out of it. At this point, it’s probably one of my fullest bikinis because of how ordinary and lightweight it is.

Freelance style writer Talia Ergas and I wear a size 34B. The Italian Triangle Bikini Top is one of our favorite bikinis for small busts because the triangle cups are easy to space out and adjust to the natural orientation of your breasts.

There is slight removable padding on the cups, but they stay in place and don’t get waterlogged. However, you lose bust support with any design this light, so people with larger cup sizes should avoid it.

“It’s a good option for sunbathing, but I’d probably choose something sturdier for swimming,” Talia writes. And I agree: string ties can feel precariously loose in the ocean. I only wear this one in the pool, as the cheeky adjustable side-tie bikini bottoms feel a little like flossing. Don’t buy them if you want full coverage or a perfect fit.

The gold metal details haven’t scratched or cracked in the two years I’ve been wearing this bikini, which is a testament to its durability. The only drawback is that they will burn if you use this suit in the sauna.

The Italian Maternity Wrap One Piece Swimsuit

Maternity swimsuits aren’t something you want to spend a lot on since they can only be worn for a limited time, which is just one reason to love this under $50 wrap one-piece swimsuit from Quince. The material is something else: it’s not at all restrictive thanks to some clever gathering around the abdomen, and I never felt like I couldn’t breathe well. I also love that the wrap isn’t just an aesthetic touch, but can actually be pulled as tight as you want or need to provide chest support and define your waist. It comes with sewn-in cups, which I usually don’t love, but in this case I appreciate it for the, ahem, body changes I’m experiencing right now.

There is one drawback that I have found with this suit, and that is that sizing is complicated if you are short. I’m 5’2″ and ordered a size Large, my usual pre-pregnancy size, and it was a big fit. The straps felt particularly long, which meant I ended up with less chest support than I needed. The wrap element helped support me from the bottom up, but I wish I had a size medium for a better fit on top.

If you are tall, I would go with your normal size, but if you are short like me, I would recommend a size smaller in this suit. Your belly will still have plenty of room to grow as it is very elastic!

The final result

At $50 for a one-piece suit and $60 for a two-piece set, Quince is a solid source for affordable, well-made swimsuits. I’ve been wearing and washing the same Quince bikini for two summers and it’s still in great shape, proving that Quince swimsuits beat their price tag.

You won’t find colorful prints or special engineering to support an extra-large bust, but we still found plenty of value in their maternity styles and swimsuit staples. The Italian Cami One Piece is my top choice if you want a simple suit that repels sea salt and sunscreen.
