Despite the apparent location (Madison Square Garden in the middle of bustling, crowded Manhattan), the event remains a mystery: Is it really Friday? How do you transform the gigantic sports venue into a wedding venue? Will there really be a castle? Who is invited?
But for the guests (rumored to be 1,100 guests), here’s the most important question: What are you wearing?
Some potential guests – some seen in New York this week – are likely to lean towards the softer, but also very classic, traditional and clean styles favored by Swift, fashion editor Savannah Bradley told the BBC.
“I imagine everything will be very polished, pristine – again, romantic is the key word,” he said. “I wouldn’t be surprised if you saw a lot of Gucci, a lot of Dior by Jonathan Anderson.”
Swift’s group of famous friends (Selena Gomez, Suki Waterhouse, the Haim sisters, Cara Delevingne, Jack Antonoff and Sabrina Carpenter, among them) reflect diverse tastes.
Nola Ojomu, an entertainment journalist, highlighted Carpenter’s “distinctive old Hollywood glamor style,” which will likely be her “go-to wedding look.”
Some reports suggested a black-tie dress code, complete with top hats for men and evening gloves for women. Us Weekly also reported, citing an anonymous source, that guests were told the topic was “whimsical.”
“Suki Waterhouse’s effortless boho style lends itself perfectly to the rumored theme, and she’s sure to have one of the most distinctive looks of the night alongside the likes of Cara Delevingne,” Ojomu said.
She predicted guests in “vibrant hues and flowy dresses,” popular at summer weddings in New York.
“Lately, lighter lace fabrics have made a comeback, as have dresses with an elegant multi-neck scarf.”
