Netanyahu arrived at the White House shortly after Zelensky left on Tuesday.

The discussion between him and Trump was expected to focus largely on the conflict in Iran.

Their once-friendly ties have become more strained in recent months, with Trump frequently criticizing Israel for continuing attacks in Lebanon and ignoring a ceasefire.

After the meeting, the prime minister told Israeli media that the two had “an understanding of a shared goal, to ensure that Iran does not have nuclear weapons, and also other goals.”

“One of the best conversations I have had with the president of the United States,” he added.

Their meeting came a day after Trump said “very friendly negotiations are taking place” over the conflict with Iran, after the warring parties did not exchange attacks for the third day in a row.

He expressed optimism about the end of the war, telling reporters aboard Air Force One, “I think there’s a good chance something will happen.”

But on Tuesday night, US Central Command (Centcom) claimed that Iranian forces “launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iran in an attempted surprise attack against US forces based in the Middle East.”

The missiles were successfully intercepted, according to Centcom.
