Three women in NSW have died just hours apart in separate incidents across the state from Bondi Beach to the state’s north.
On Saturday, at around 9.35pm, police were called to a domestic violence incident at Mole Creek in the state’s north, where they were told a 27-year-old man had entered a property and tried to steal a vehicle before assaulting the 74-year-old male home owner.
The younger man was arrested and police then went on to search the neighbouring property where they found the body of a woman in her 70s. Part of the property was damaged by fire.
A crime scene has been established and an investigation launched with help from the homicide squad.
Just hours earlier, another woman, in her 90s, was fatally stabbed in a Bondi apartment in the early evening, just metres from a busy pedestrian thoroughfare and the beach.
A 47-year-old man was arrested after police were called to the unit in Chambers Avenue about 5.15pm following reports of a stabbing.
Officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command arrived and found the woman with significant injuries.
She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, but died at the scene.
The man, who is believed to have been known to the woman, was arrested and taken to Surry Hills police station.
Earlier on Saturday, at a home in Kooringal, a suburb of Wagga Wagga, a 23-year-old woman was also fatally stabbed inside a home.
Emergency services responded about 11.45am on Saturday morning.
NSW Ambulance paramedics and police officers performed CPR on the woman, but she died at the home.
An 18-year-old was arrested at the scene, but later released without charge.
Police launched a search operation for a second man, who fled the residence before the arrival of emergency services.
Later on Saturday night, about 8.30pm, the man was arrested at another home in Kooringal. The 31-year-old was taken to Wagga Wagga police station.
All three people are believed to have been known to each other.
One woman was killed every 11 days in 2024-25, according to recent data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
Of the 98 domestic homicide victims, 46 were killed by an intimate partner, 52 were killed by a family member, 20 were the child of the offender and 21 were the parent of the offender.
Police have established a crime scene at the three locations and detectives have commenced inquiries. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
