The United States has launched a series of strikes against Iran in response to attacks on three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The tankers were damaged over a 24-hour period on Monday and Tuesday, according to the UK Maritime Trading Operations (UKMTO).
Earlier on Tuesday, a US official said Iran would face consequences and called the attacks “totally unacceptable.”
Iran has not claimed responsibility for the attacks on the oil tankers.
Centcom said in a statement posted on X that the US attacks were “in response to the Iranian attacks.”
“The aggression demonstrated by Iran was unjustified, dangerous and a clear violation of the ceasefire,” he said.
Qatar and Saudi Arabia also denounced the attacks, each saying their country’s oil tanker had been hit while transiting through or near the Strait.
On Tuesday, the United States revoked a sanctions waiver that temporarily lifted oil sanctions on Iran.
