Currently preparing “Number 10”, one of the most anticipated British television series, “Sherlock” creator and “Doctor Who” showrunner, Steven Moffat, will attend the Serializados-Barcelona Series Festival as its main international guest. He will be joined by producer Sue Vertue, producer of “Mr. Bean”, “Sherlock” and “Number 10” and chief executive of Hartswood Films, the UK’s oldest scripted producer, also behind the ITVX and ITV1 hit “Douglas Is Cancelled”. Hartswood Films was majority acquired by ITV Studios in 2024.

Serialized has not yet revealed what Moffat and Vertue will talk about. If a Series Mania masterclass is anything to go by, your session in Barcelona will certainly be fun.

“Real life is fun, drama is a lie,” Moffat said on Serialized in Lille. “You can’t be too funny, too sexy or too pretty. Always look for the funny. Humor is truth in speed, that’s what it is. It’s insight with speed.”

Serielizados is increasingly aligned with the Catalan television industry and at the same time continues to attract the Spanish premieres of some of the most talked-about international series of the year (the 2025 festival was won, for example, by the Norwegian “A Better Man” and the Canadian “Empathy”). The conference at the Serialized industry arm, Serialized Pro, generated a high-quality debate that enlivened senior executives from Nordic broadcasters SVT, DR and YLE, as well as representatives from BBC Studios, Arte France, Germany’s Beta Film and Paris-based Slot Machine.

In-person attendance soared 80% last year to 16,000, while the online version of Serielizados, hosted by exclusive SVOD service Filmin, reached 194,000 viewers.

‘In Vitro’, ‘Episodic’

In 2026, from October 19 to 28, Serielizados will premiere with “In Vitro”, supported by Catalan public broadcaster 3Cat and HBO Max and debuting this fall.

Created by Marc Crehuet and Alejandra Guimerà, and directed by Creheut (“Pop Ràpid”, “El rey tuerto”, !Mirror, Mirror”), it revolves around Blanca, 37 years old, a biologist, new to a fertility clinic where she faces the needs and risks of her clients and also her own. Beta Film acquired the international distribution rights to “In Vitro” before Series Mania.

Serializados closes with an experiment the first season of “Episòdic: El principi d’Arquimedes”, an anthology series of six chapters, each episode lasting 15 minutes, made by 38 audiovisual students from universities, film schools and educational institutions.

The series is directed by Ainhoa Lastra (“La nit del foc”, at the Pompeu Fabra University, and Andrea Morales (Paraules d’amor) and Carlos R. Haro (“Cinc minuts més, si us plau”). The series is written by Daniel Durán Pous – producer of “Unicorni” with two shorts to his credit, “Hipolit” and “L’ultim tren” –, adapting the playwright’s “Arquímedes’ Principle” Josep María Miró An alleged drama of child abuse that cleverly plays on the audience’s own sense of prejudice, the play is hailed in its native Catalonia as a modern Catalan classic.

‘Second Season, ‘Nissaga of power’, ‘Literaturium de series‘

Serielizados will also present “Segunda Season,” the latest Filmin Original from Spain’s exclusive SVOD streaming service, which revolves around Paula, a once-bestselling generational voice who, after writers’ block, is reduced to ghosts in the biography of a washed-up trap music legend, fresh out of prison, and may or may not be feeling redemption. Created by Miguel Ángel Blanca, behind the great success of Filmin “Autodefensa”, “Segunda Season” will compete in the national Serielizados competition.

The television festival will also present the 30th anniversary of 3Cat’s soap opera “Nissaga de poder,” a milestone in its pursuit of ambitious originals, and “Literaturium de séries,” an exclusive live edition of the comedy podcast that reviews the supposed but fictional best television series of the year.

Serielizados also announced this Tuesday the second edition of Mind the Gap, its project pitching showcase that will take place on October 21, as part of Serielizados PRO. Expanded to 11 selected titles, with its call for submissions now open and extended until August 17, eight will be chosen from an open call and three will be selected from the winners at Germany’s Seriencamp Co-Production Pitch and Spain’s Foro ECAM and Iberseries & Platino Industria, an indication of how European events are working together to present projects to their key commissioners, production executives and sales agents who make up the Mind the Gap jury.

Participants can also expect press coverage. The winners of last year’s inaugural Mind the Gap were led by the best series award for “Fortune Cookie,” a low-fi sci-fi dramatic thriller set in Madrid’s Usera Chinatown, created by Adrián Saba (“Toribio Bardelli’s Erection”) and produced by Kubik Films, the Spanish banner of Newen Studios headed by brothers Fernando, Jorge and Alberto Sánchez-Cabezudo.

“A comedy about two Gen Z misfits dodging eviction, chasing dreams, marking adulthood and the glittering city. [Barcelona] that’s leaving them behind,” said producer Anna M. Bofarull. “Precarity Fair,” created by Eli Cruz and Mika Cilindro and produced by KaBoGa, won the Konga Music Award from Mind the Gap.

In a further step, Serializados has launched its banner with the tagline “An Eye for It,” which it says “emphasizes the role of its programming team in filtering and curating the ever-increasing number of television series, helping audiences discover the most interesting and distinctive titles in an increasingly crowded landscape.”

In fact, Serializados has often demonstrated impeccable taste in the selection of its programs and in the main awards: a jury recognized Sweden’s “Pressure Point” in 2024, for example, as best international series. The applause of the 2025 national contest went to “The Anatomy of a Moment” and “Jakarta”.
